The MADMi presents the first solo museum exhibition of the work of Italo-Puerto Rican visual artist Francesco Baronti. A selection of his latest paintings will invite visitors into intricate, colorful, surreal scenarios in which toys, animals, and fantastic creatures abound within theatrical compositions.
Reminiscent of medieval puppet theaters, these paintings reflect Baronti’s many influences and interests, from his classical training in Florence to his nomadic lifestyle and love of our tropical landscapes. Multiple realms manifest themselves in these canvases, in whose spaces coexist literary characters like Pinocchio, African animals, and Caribbean plantains, reflecting the artist’s penchant for storytelling and his admiration for Italian Surrealism and American Pop Art.
